16 Fresh Tips to Make Your Bathroom Smell Amazing

The bathroom is very hard to keep in a tip-top-smelling condition. When it’s not smelling like number one (urine), it’s smelling like number two (feces) … you know that’s not easy to bear, if we are going, to be honest here!

Numbers one and two are obvious, but poor ventilation can also lead to bad scents. This is not normally very obvious, but It can also cause mildew and mold to appear on your bathroom tiles and on towels and shower curtains as well.

Here are some tips to get out those bad smells.

Open windows and doors for ventilation

The number one recommended way to gain some freshness in your bathroom is to give it some good ventilation. Most bathrooms are made with a very small window at the top of one side of four enclosed walls, an enclosed top and bottom and just one door which is kept closed most of the time.

This is already a recipe for a bad scent.

The lack of ventilation will cause moisture to build up if you are not using a dehumidifier. Because moisture provides the perfect environment for micro-organisms to grow, then comes mold, mildew, and other microorganisms. And they do smell unpleasant!

It is, therefore, best to open bathroom windows and doors when showering. Keep them open throughout the day as much as possible so the fresh air can dry out the moisture.

Touch Up Your Toilet Paper Roll

Sprinkle Some Essential oil on the toilet paper roll. The essential oil will soak into the paper and give off some nice smells when you step into the bathroom and even more so when you touch the toilet paper.

Enhance The Ventilation

Take a standing fan into the bathroom after everyone has taken their morning bath, turn it on high. Let it rotate if you so desire but let it focus mostly on the shower area. Keep it there for at least two hours. This will provide enhanced ventilation, leaving the bathroom fresher than usual as it drives out the moisture from those morning baths.

Refresh With Vinegar

Pour some vinegar into the toilet tank. Measure about one cup of white vinegar and pour it into the toilet tank, let it stay for a few hours but not all day. It will help to loosen some hard water stains and then flush it out. This keeps the water in the toilet tank fresher.

Use Some Fabric Softener To Help

Leave some fabric softener in the toilet tank by dissolving it in the water. This will give a surprise burst of fresh aroma to salute you when you flush. It also makes the bathroom smell good while it sits there in the toilet tank.

Light A Scented Candle

Did you know that smoke kills bacteria? Oh yes, it does. Not all bacteria but it sure kills the ones that cause odors.

In this case, the candles will give off smoke while burning and the smoke kills the bacteria that cause scent as it rises.

Lighting a scented candle is by far one of the most effective ways I have come across. It helps before, during, and after number two. For some of us, like me, lighting three candles is better for during…

Make a Homemade Bad Scent Killer o/c Poo Pourri

Spray two or three times in the bowl before sitting.

Mist two more times in the air after you are done. And leave the bathroom big and bold for the next user.

Shake well and apply two spritzes in the bowl before sitting.

Place this bottle in a viewable area for all to access.

A Little Bleach Kills Many Things

This is me being bad! I know that bleach is not good to use and it is a toxic chemical but I am just sharing, that sometimes I do use it as a backup run-to, to destroy some bad smells. It is not good to have this in your home but this is just my confession as a real-life person who breaks some of the rules at times to get things done my way. Not a good tip from me!

Make Use of Some Hydrogen Peroxide

The face basin drain can get very smelly at times, causing the bad scent to fly all over the bathroom without you noticing the source of that bad scent. Use hydrogen peroxide to kill some of the bacteria that cause this odor. It can kill lots of germs so every now and then, just pour some down the face basin drain.

In addition to the hydrogen peroxide can be some baking soda to destroy those bad-smelling bacteria, but I rather use one or the other. I want things to stretch so I use them frugally.

Do not forget the bathtub drain, pour some hydrogen peroxide in there as well to take control of all the scent in the surrounding. It can be counter-productive to have nice-smelling sprays that you mist in the air and as soon as that scent wears off, there is a stink once more. Moreover, you do not want to have good and bad scents mixing.

Mounted Sponge

Cut a piece of sponge off your eraser sponge. In this case, mine has two different grades of sponges attached to each other. The eraser sponge is more compact so I joined that part to the wall with two-sided tape. I Placed it in a strategic area that will appear nice to the sight. You may also hide it. The purpose is to get the scent oozing all over the bathroom.

Then I added a few drops of essential. It worked like a charm. It is just like any air freshener that has a wall-mounting sticky thing at the back.

Add the scent you prefer. I like, lavender, jasmine, and vanilla essential oils. You can mix them to see how it turns out.

Add Some Pinesol Essence

Keep your toilet brush fresh by adding some Pinesol. The Toilet brush may contain some nasty bacteria whether or not you used it in the bowl. It is sitting in the bathroom and bacteria in that area tend to be great in numbers if they are not killed very often.

Refresh Your Face Basin

Additionally, you may pour some of that Pinesol down the pace basin drain. Normally Pinesol is very strong so the scent both kills germs and gives an aroma in the bathroom.

Place A Fresh-scent Holder In The Trash Pan

Put a sponge in the bottom of the trash can. It can serve more than one use. It will both absorb any liquid that may leak from the liner and will give off some nice scent that you add to it.

Add a few drops of essential to it and then place your liner.

Use A Rag If You Do Not Have a Sponge At Hand

Fold the rag and place it in the bottom of the pan and add the essential oil of choice to it.

To control the scent you may also add some baking soda in the middle of the rag and just fold it.

Add your liner and don’t forget to hold it in place properly.

I use clothespins to hold my liner firmly!

Burn An Incense Stick

Burn an incense stick in the bathroom and banish bad odors as you fill the air with sweet-smelling flavors. I really love this one!

Scrub Your Bathtub With Baking Soda And Grapefruit

Your bathtub could be in need of some grease stripping. Use baking soda and half of a grapefruit to strip away the grease from your bathtub. Sprinkle the baking soda either on the tub or on the grapefruit or lemon and rub in a circular motion. This will make your bathroom smell and feel so refreshed.

Make A Refreshing Scent Killing Solution

Toothpaste is specially formulated to kill scents and germs. Hydrogen peroxide is a natural cleaning solution that destroys a lot of bacteria. When we mix both these solutions together, it can do wonders in killing scent and the bacteria that cause odors.

Mix a quarter cup of hydrogen peroxide in equal amounts of water and add two teaspoons of toothpaste and one teaspoon of dish soap. Mix it thoroughly and pour it into a spray bottle.

Use this solution to clean bathroom tiles, and shower curtains, spray some in the toilet bowl, use to clean the toilet bowl, spray some in the face basin drain, on the counters, and so on.

Lift that toilet tank cover and add a few spritzes as well.

The fresh mint scent from the toothpaste really makes the bathroom smell good.
